Greenkeepers and managers from UK golf courses and leading sports venues attended the first Golf Research Week held at the Throws Technology Centre in the UK in mid-September organised by Origin Amenity Solutions.
Visitors to the Origin Amenity Technology Centre in Essex were given an informative tour and an opportunity to see first-hand the work underway in the greenhouse, amenity area, and trials site.
The £0.5 million investment in the centre is facilitating trials, research, and data collection to help safeguard the future of the industry, considering the impact of climate, environmental factors and legislative pressures on products and practices. The trial grounds have a fully functioning Rain Bird irrigation system installed, Davis Weather monitoring and recording station, Soil Scout below ground ‘real time’ monitoring of temperature, moisture, and salinity, and the low invasive groundwater dynamics drainage system.
A ‘behind the scenes’ overview of the different parts of the Origin Amenity Solutions business included a Rain Bird irrigation workshop and a laboratory session exploring soil microbiology.
Shaun Anderson, Golf Sales Specialist for Rain Bird in the UK, Ireland, and Iceland commented,
“The irrigation workshop, in collaboration with our UK distributor Origin Amenity Solutions, further developed our partnership, highlighting ways venues can improve water management through the Intelligent Use of Water™. Water is a resource in high demand, with challenging restrictions in place and to come. Coupled with energy prices rising significantly, we need to be leaders in the industry. The research week was a fantastic initiative showcasing the different technologies and products Origin Amenity Solutions is developing and working with. From an irrigation stance, it was great to be involved in educating visitors about products and sustainable and effective irrigation.”
