A few minutes from Mannheim city centre, Mannheim Viernheim Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs in Germany, located in the middle of the Rhine Neckar metropolitan region. The backdrop of the Käfertal Forest and 100-year-old trees for 40 fairway and green bunkers provides the perfect setting for a picturesque 18-hole course. This is a golf club that has sustainability clearly in focus, with an ongoing commitment to biodiversity and protection of the natural environment.

To keep pace with changing environmental conditions, Mannheim Viernheim is adapting and extending its irrigation system to cope with new requirements. Significant investment in modernising the irrigation system has been made to deliver more efficient and sustainable water management.

Renovation of the irrigation system is being carried out by Rain Bird’s German distributor, irrigation consultant and contractor – Stock Beregnungstechnik [https://stock-gmbh.eu/]. Christian Stock started working in this project in 2020 which will be completed in 2022.

The existing Rain Bird decoder system is being upgraded to a Rain Bird Stratus™ II Central Control System and irrigation on the course fairways expanded from single to double row. Double-row configuration on the fairway guarantees that water will only be applied where needed. More precise positioning using individual rotor settings will prevent water wastage through application to hard roughs or out of play areas.
