Designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the 18-hole Hankley Common Golf Club is a dry, sandy, links-type course, with fine, free draining turf cut through swathes of heather. Irrigation consultant Roger Davey of Irritech designed a new irrigation system with a central pump station on a Rain Bird IC System™ with Stratus II™ Central Control with mobile interface (MI) and weather station. A double row system with Rain Bird 700 Series valve-in-head rotors was installed on fairways with back-to-back Rain Bird 751 Series rotors on greens and approaches and a combination of block and valve-in-head rotors on tees.
Recently Golf Course Managers from the West Midlands region were invited to tour Whittington Heath Golf Club in Lichfield, UK to learn about the transformational project taking shape. They had the opportunity to discuss the project with the Course Manager and meet the designer and various contractors on the project.
The Ålands Golf Club recently upgraded the club's the existing Nimbus™ II Central Control system and replaced the original 30 year old PVC pipes with 19,500m of new HDPE polyethylene piping and 23,000 metres of 2-core control cabling. The new system will allow the club to be more accurate, use less water, achieve a better results, and improve the quality of greens no matter the season.
